School Adoption Programme

The future of our Nation depends on our younger generation. At Sime Darby we believe that our best contribution towards their development is through education. It is for this reason that we have embarked on an aggressive school adoption programme. As of today, we have adopted a total of 16 schools in Penang , Perlis, Perak and Kedah. Our commitment revolves around providing support to the students, teachers, parents and the community at large to ensure that education takes a centre stage in the life of young Malaysians.

Encouraging and Recognizing Academic Achievement in the Field of Science and Technology
Science and Technology has been identified as one of the most significant future drivers of our economy. We would like to encourage individuals to excel in this area and with that in mind, we recognise on a yearly basis the best Science and Technology student from University Teknology MARA (UiTM) through a trophy and cash award.

Contributing Towards Leadership Development
Effective leaders make a difference. They inspire, they set the pace, they guide, they facilitate and ultimately they drive achievement and success. Leaders are essential in all levels of our society, including our Government.

With this in mind, and in recognition for their contribution towards our Nation’s development and progress, Sime Darby sponsors senior government officials from the Armed Forces and the Civil Service to attend the Wolfson Leadership Programme conducted by Wolfson College – Cambridge .

In addition, and to ensure Malaysia is successful in nurturing our next generation of leaders, the Group contributes to the Perdana Leadership Foundation.

Pilgrimage Sponsorship and Other Contributions to Society

We are a caring corporate citizen and we want to make a difference in our society. On a yearly basis, we seek to sponsor elderly residents from Rumah Seri Kenangan to perform their pilgrimage in Makkah. We work in collaboration with Lembaga Urusan Tabung Haji (LUTH) and Jabatan Kebajikan Masyarakat Malaysia to make this a reality.

On a regular basis we make contributions and donations to sponsor and support humanitarian projects. The following are just a few examples of our efforts:

• We contributed to the establishment of a Snoezelen Therapy Room for the Kiwanis Special Children Centre in Bandar Utama, Petaling Jaya to help provide a stimulating environment for children diagnosed with learning disorders or disabilities like Autism, Down Syndrome, Hyperactivity etc.
• We contributed to the National Disaster Relief Fund established to help the victims of the Tsunami;
• We regularly contribute to the Cancer Research Institute Foundation (CARIF);
